Module One:

Common skin diseases up to date

This course covers common skin diseases that doctors see every week. The latest treatments will be discussed as will be diets that are effective treatment.

The objectives of learning are:

Implement a routine to advise patients how to prevent atopic dermatitis, asthma, and some allergies

Recognize the diseases that are linked to psoriasis

Advise patients of the role of diet in the treatment of acne

Recognize the usefulness of imiquimod, or tacrolimus, for many skin diseases

Recognize the importance of vaccination against warts to prevent several cancers, and the importance of vaccination to prevent herpes zoster

Module Two

Skin cancer up to date

This course will cover the latest in treatment of skin cancer, diagnosis of melanomas, and how to prevent skin cancers.

The objectives of learning are:

Advise people of different races of their different risk of skin cancer

Advise people how to prevent premalignant and malignant skin lesions

Implement a routine to screen people for skin cancer

Recognize the role of surgery in skin cancer and the role of certain drugs in the treatment of skin cancer

Be aware of  importance of sun exposure in moderation for good health

Module 3

Third World (refugee) Diseases in Australia

Many refugees arrive from the Third World and bring with them diseases that Australian doctors are not familiar with. Travellers to exotic places can also be infected with exotic diseases. It is important that Australian doctors be aware of the most common of these exotic diseases so that they can odrer the appropriate tests when consulted by a patient who has been to the less developed parts of the world.

Be aware of tropical diseases that are in Australia

Be aware of diseases travellers might contract during their voyages

Implement a routine to screen refugees for diseases

Be aware of venereal diseases and order the appropriate tests when suspecting VD in a patient

Screen refugees/immigrants from the Third World for diseases before prescribing immunosuppressive drugs
